BCAB to donate over $1 million in airtime to “Distractions Campaign”
By the end of this calendar year a significant sum will have already been spent on radio and television by ICBC and the Government of British Columbia on their “Distractions Campaign”- creating public awareness around the risk of irresponsible use of hand held devices while driving.
We knew this campaign had the immediate potential to save the lives of British Columbian's everywhere, so in addition to the paid advertising the BCAB board agreed to donate to the province over $1 Million in value in the form of public service announcements and/or other on-air promotion of responsible cell phone use during the period April 2010 to March 2011.
Your stations have been running the special PSA versions that mention BCAB's involvement since they were distributed to you earlier this year: we thank you for your participation in this worthwhile effort. Some of you have also been approached directly by the province’s advertising agency Wasserman and Partners to support additional digital initiatives. For those of you able to accommodate that request we also thank you.
At the end of the one year period we will be asking you to report on how much support you were able to deliver. Individual station contributions will not be revealed - but we will use it in our "total" in the preparation of our summary report to ICBC and the province.
When we undertake to support campaigns like this we are fulfilling one of our mandates as an association: to promote and contribute to community enhancing programs throughout the province. It’s just one more way we continue to give back to the communities we serve.
